The newest game in the Fire Emblem franchise, Fire Emblem Engage has finally been officially revealed during this morning’s Nintendo Direct presentation in a three-minute trailer that dives deep into what players can expect from the next entry when it releases this coming January. Players anticipating the game will be able to play as Alear, the game’s red and blue-haired protagonist and is a divine royal family dragon who wakes up at the start of the game after a long thousand-year nap.
Fire Emblem Engage‘s most notable feature is that players will be able to link with legendary heroes from Fire Emblem‘s past which includes the return of Marth as he is paired with Alear as an almost spiritual companion to help him in story and battle. The trailer really hammers it home how much more of an expanded scope this game has as it feels much more cinematic than the 2017 entry for sure, we also got a look at Fire Emblem Engage‘s town-building and relationship elements as well.
While it’s great to see how the game will actually play, it’s not a complete shock as the game was previously leaked a couple of months back in an assortment of screenshots and we kinda had an idea the a new one was coming off the success of Fire Emblem Three Houses.
The leaked screenshots previously showed the protagonist with longer hair which is assumed could be their female counterpart that players can choose from like in past games in the series. The female version was not shown during the trailer but we do get a small look at her in the game’s cover art at the end, we could get an actual cinematic look of her in the lead-up to launch when Nintendo is ready to show her off.
Fire Emblem Engage is set to launch on Nintendo Switch on January 20th, 2023 with a Divine Edition that comes with the game, an artbook, steel book, and art cards of past Fire Emblem characters when it releases.
