Square Enix is betting on free players with its new update for Final Fantasy XI Online, seemingly hoping to convert them to paid players while also giving them some love in return.
The new September update, now live, increases the free level cap from 50 to 75.
Additionally, the previous 14-day free-play time limit has been removed, letting players experience the “Free Trial” without time restrictions.
“Trust Magic” is now stronger than ever, as the maximum number of alter ego points that can be assigned to each category has increased from 50 to 60, giving players more flexibility when strengthening their “Trusts.”
Work is ongoing on the upcoming “Trust Equipment System (tentative name),” which is targeted for launch in the winter.
In terms of “Ambuscade Encounters,” This month’s rotation features Qutrub and Hydra, each bringing new mechanics and strategies for players to tackle.
Finally, “The Shadow Lord’s Dominion” is back as a “Special Event” running through October, but also features a new item for players to obtain.
