Square Enix has been rightfully quiet on any Final Fantasy VII Rebirth news with Final Fantasy XVI’s release just around the corner but we did get a bit of an update on how the game is going so far, according to a post on the game’s Twitter.
In a developer Q&A, the game’s producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth‘s development is “progressing well” and that the internal Square Enix developer is currently trying to nail down a release date. Ahead of Summer Games Fest which is less than a week away from the event’s showcase kicking off, this is a clear hint that the game might not be at any event this coming week and that we may hear more later this year.
Hopefully, it’s not that too much of a wait though as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is still slated to release sometime in Winter 2023 and Kitase’s reassurance comes across that game won’t be missing that window. With game development anything can change, be it the actual work or Square Enix finding the best date to release the game. Knowing that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being positioned as a later year release and the window of “Winter 2023” on its own sounds to me like December.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Square Enix tried to move this to January or February to get the boost out of their fiscal year results but I hope I’m wrong and this game still comes out this year as it sounds like the perfect late fall release game for myself and many others who played Final Fantasy VII Remake back in April 2020 to players who picked up the game afterward.
“Very few, if any video games have the same expectations built around them and yet Final Fantasy VII Remake delivers on almost all of them. Granted, there are some growing pains that come with a longer development cycle and a few warts begin to surface. However, the combat is easily the best of the series has seen, delivering on the legacy of the original and welcoming a new generation to one of the greatest video games of all time.” Bobby said in our Final Fantasy VII Remake review.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to launch exclusively on PS5 sometime in WInter 2023.
