That was fast. In less than one year, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier will be shuttering on January 11, 2023.
The news comes from the title’s official website alongside a tweet on Twitter.
In short, Square Enix says that with a heavy heart, it has decided to shutter the live service title.
[End of Service Notice]

“Despite all our efforts to bring you regular updates with fresh and exciting content, we haven’t been able to deliver the experience that we were hoping to, and that you all deserve, so we have made the extremely tough decision to end service for Final Fantasy VII: The First Solider.”
It should be noted that when Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier launched, Square Enix released the app on mobile before the servers were live, this led to 1-star reviews and people abandoning the game before an official launch. The idea of a battle royale title in the same vein as Apex Legends only set in Midgard seemed like a great idea with Season 2 kicking off at the start of this year.
I wouldn’t worry too much though as we have a lot of Final Fantasy coming including a Crisis Core remake, Ever Crisis, and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
Square Enix is also aiming to launch Final Fantasy XVI sometime next summer.
