A New Fate/Samurai Remnant Trailer Introduces Edo Japan

Koei Tecmo’s latest Fate/Samurai Remnant trailer showcases the latest entry in the Fate series set in Edo-era Japan.

The entry is currently in development at Omera Force. It is an action RPG, and today’s trailer provides a deeper look at storyline elements and reveals the main theme, Zanya Gensou feat. LICCA / Spiral Ladder.

The Fate series has always had pairs of Masters and heroic spirits known as Servants, fighting through history in a series of Holy Grail Wars, with the winning pair receiving an artifact with the ability to grant wishes.

You play as Iori, and you’ll explore two boisterous towns of Edo, filled with activities and sights, including shopping at Babyloni-ya. With Saber at Iori’s side, the pair look to discover life in Edo and work together, completing sidequests to earn money and materials.

Edo is split into several districts, and players can use the world map to get around, showing progress in each district and story beats as you proceed through the story of the Waxing Moon Ritual. Some Rogue Servants may suggest sub-quests called “Digressions”. Players will bond with Rogue Servants accompanying Iori as they progress through the different Digressions.

Combat features three gauges to watch for — the Affinity Gauge, the Substitution Gauge, and the Hidden Sword Gauge. The Affinity Gauge is used to use the Affinity Technique and order Servants in battle and fills up when Iori orders attacks or during exploration. The Substitution Gauge allows players to control Servants temporarily, and the Hidden Sword Gauge allows players to unleash Iori’s unique techniques.

Fate/Samurai Remnant launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC on September 29, 2023.
