Everything Shown at Summer Game Fest 2022

Geoff Keighley is back to fill that void where E3 once was. In lieu of a weeklong event in the heart of Los Angeles, Keighley has stepped in and set up to entertain the masses and give millions of viewers from around the world a first look at the upcoming games coming over the next year.

Last year we got our first glimpse of Elden Ring and we’re all the better for it. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands came and went since last year and now focusing on the rest of 2022 going into next year where it is already filling up with tons of exciting releases.

Let’s dive into what we saw!

Street Fighter 6 – Guile Reveal

In the lead up to Street Fighter 6, Capcom has unveiled some returning characters coming to the game.

Favourites like Guile will be in the game in addition to Ryu, Luke, Jamie, and Chun-Li. More characters will be revealed over the coming months.

Street Fighter 6  is launching sometime in 2023 for Xbox Series X & S, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Aliens: Dark Descent

Aliens: Dark Descent is a new game set in the Aliens franchise in 2023. Focus Entertainment is working with 20th Century on this project and we’re learning it is a single-player, squad-based action game.

Tindalos Interactive will develop and they said you can recruit a squad of Marines, and rack up an arsenal of weapons, armour, and abilities to explore. Enemies will adapt their attacks based on your actions and will hunt you down. Players will also work on gathering resources to fix the stranded Otago spacecraft while upgrading your tech.

The Callisto Protocol

The co-creator of the Dead Space series Glen Schofield was on hand during Summer Game Fest to reveal our first look at The Callisto Protocol. With Krafton helping publish the game, we get a pretty gory look at the game set on one of Jupiter’s dead moons. The first trailer shown was an extended trailer from last week’s State of Play event.

Following that was a new gameplay demo that showed some of the mechanics and how Jacob handles as he works his way through Black Iron Prison — if you think the gameplay looks familiar then you’re not wrong and it looks like a worthwhile spiritual successor to Dead Space.

The game is launching on December 2, 2022.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Gameplay

At Summer Game Fest, Activision showed off the first gameplay from the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, the sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare.

The demo we say was set on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on a cargo ship filled with weapons that could spark a global conflict. Picking up and playing as Task Force 141, the team heads out based on Intel which shows missiles on board. With the helpSoap, Ghost, and Mexican Special Forces Operator Alejandro the team heads off to face new enemies.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is launching on October 28th, 2022.

Flashback 2

A sequel to the 1992 classic game, Flashback is coming later this year. Nearly three decades later and publisher Microïds is stepping in to work on a sequel.

As the night unfolds, Leary begins to see events unravel and the mystery of Fort Solis unfolds.

Routine

Revealed during Summer Game Fest, Routine is being published by Raw Fury and developer Lunar Software has recruited Mick Gordon to score the soundtrack. A new description appeared online saying: “Routine is a first-person sci-fi horror game. Set inside an abandoned Lunar base designed around an 80’s vision of the future, players will explore the decrepit station looking for answers about the events that unfolded there. Armed only with a Cosmonaut Assistance Tool (C.A.T.), to interact with the various computer systems, players must navigate whatever unknown dangers still remain.”

Lunar Software revealed that Routine has gone through a reboot with the development team saying many things impacted the delay. “As we were approaching what we believed to be the end of development, we were finding more and more things that we weren’t happy with that negatively impacted the experience. We had worked on the project for 5 years at that point and simply couldn’t release it as it was,” says a note from the team. “We were surviving on an extremely tight budget. The financial stress began taking a toll on us, especially as we realized we needed to work on things for longer. Routine at this point became a part-time project as we had to work on other jobs/projects to stay afloat”

Thankfully Raw Fury was able to step in and land a hand, leading to today’s premiere at Summer Game Fest.

The show has been airing for decades and has a Truman Show vibe to the story as countless people watch the residents of the retro-futuristic metropolis. Most people are safe and as long as the audience likes you, you have nothing to worry about, that is unless you’re Trevor Hills.

Trevor is average with an uninteresting life and that may lead to his demise. With the help of a mysterious voice, Trevor needs to make his way through the city and get backstage and escape.

The game will also be at Tribeca Game Festival but has no release date at this moment.

Goat Simulator 3

A new entry in the Goat Simulator series has been announced from Coffee Stain Studios. The trailer may look familiar to those still waiting on Dead Island 2 as it takes inspiration directly from the missing-in-action game from Techland.

“Since the release of the first Goat Simulator, it’s come to our attention that it did not really represent reality and how it actually feels to be a goat,” said Santiago Ferrero, creative director at Coffee Stain North. “So for the past couple of years, we’ve been doing some googling, and I am pleased to say: we’ve made it. Goat Simulator 3 is by far the greatest goat experience out there. Is it worth the money? Who knows. But will you regret it? Probably.”

The game is set on San Angora and allows players to roam free as goats bent on destroying everything. In an added twist, up to four players can roam around the island and you can even customize the look of your goat by adding gear to your head, feet, body, and even horns.
