It wouldn’t be September if we didn’t get the totally expected PlayStation State of Play and Nintendo Direct, but Sony is first up with their showcase of game announcements coming out this year and beyond; still not going with the PlayStation Showcase branded presentation after all these years. The September 2026 edition of this month’s State of Play was announced on Monday as a double feature presentation with a regular State of Play and another go at State of Play Japan, once again hosted by Japanese voice actor Yuki Kaji.
In the State of Play announcement, Sony revealed that PlayStation players would get “updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios,” alongside its third party partners. The State of Play was revealed to end with an “extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation.” That’s only the first of two State of Play shows as we come back with the start of State of Play Japan that features a look at gameplay, announcements, and more, from the home-grown titles from studios based in the land of the rising sun alongside works from Asian studios sharing the digital stage.
