Following this year’s Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley is back at it again with another showcase of upcoming games in this year’s Opening Night Live on-site at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The presentation is set to show off “what’s next for gaming” with a combination of previously announced and unannounced games scheduled to make an appearance.
Some of those titles were already confirmed before the game presentation officially kicked off which include Sonic Frontiers, Hogwarts Legacy, The Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights, Goat Simulator 3, High on Life, The Expanse: The Telltale Series, and many more. Overall more than 35 games were scheduled to be shown off during Geoff Keighley’s Gamescom Opening Night Live two-hour presentation
The live stream presentation starts off with Geoff Keighley introing Open Night Live in front of a live audience for the first time since 2019. As for the video games, the show kicks off in a familiar fashion with a world premiere of one of those unannounced games that’s a “new world from a brand new team with a bold vision” from Game Director, Leslie Benzies.
Everywhere (PC)
Release Date: TBA 2023
Kicking the show off first is a new game, Everywhere which is being developed by ex-Rockstar developers in a newly formed studio, Build A Rocket Bo. At the Gamescom stage, one of the developers described that the game’s world was built in mind for gamers which is a new multi-world game experience that blurs the line between reality and the digital world. While that does sound more than a little like Fortnite, they did add they are still passionate to create immersive story-based games which feels very much alive if the tease in the trailer is to be believed
Dune: Awakening (PC, PS5, & Xbox Series)
After that is a new open-world survival MMO game from Funcom set in the world of Dune called DUNE Awakening. Not much is known in terms of release as it’s early days but is set to release on PC, PS5, & Xbox Series platforms.
Dualsense Edge Controller (PS5)
Up next is something from the world of PlayStation but not in terms of software but controller hardware as Sony announced its DualSense Edge controller, PlayStation’s answer to the Xbox Elite Controller. It’s Sony’s first-ever high-performance and ultra-customizable controller which is set to give you an edge in gameplay by allowing you to create custom controls. No release date was revealed but Sony PR said that more news on the controller will be revealed in the months to come.
The Callisto Protocol (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, & Xbox Series)
Release Date: December 2nd
Before its release in December, The Callisto Protocol got another brand new look at gameplay which showed off more scenarios, enemies, and abilities players can expect from the game plus gruesome ways you can ‘game over’ in the Dead Space spiritual successor.
The Lords of the Fallen (PC, PS5 & Xbox Series)
Release Date: TBA 2023
The Lords of the Fallen is a brand new RPG adventure that is set to be five times bigger than the original game. Players are set to explore two parallel worlds, the land of the living and the dead after the resurrection of the demon god, Adyr who was defeated in the first game. Players wil; create a customized character and have to master a “fast, fluid and challenging combat system” by wielding combat and magic attacks to combat any enemies you encounter along the way.
Moving Out 2 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, & Switch)
Release Date: TBA 2023
That’s right Moving Out is getting a sequel and boy is it sillier than ever alongside online play from launch. Players will make their way back to Packmore as they once again move a lot more houses out as they try to get to the top of the game’s F.A.R.T. (Furniture Arrangement & Relocation Technician) mountain.
Hogwarts Legacy (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, & Switch)
Release Date: February 10th 2023
We got another look at Hogwarts Legacy following its delay to February 2023, the trailer shows off more of the game and characters as you are warned to not use dark arts magic In Hogwarts Legacy you will discover magical beasts, craft potions, and master spell casting as you uncover the mystery of Ancient Magic.
New Tales for the Borderlands (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, & Switch)
Release Date: October 21st
We got our official first look at New Tales for the Borderlands which is set to feature a new story and characters from creatives of the original Telltale Series game which is being developed in-house this time around by Gearbox Quebec.
Dying Light 2: Bloody Ties
Release Date: October 13th
The first story expansion of Dying Light 2: Stay Human is making its debut on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series platforms this October. Bloody Ties will see players will embark on a new story adventure, you will adventure to a new location, The Carnage Hall. The locale is an old opera building that will have players take on new quests, weapon types, character interactions, and discoveries to find.
Sonic Frontiers
Release Date: November 8th
Following a new Sonic Frontiers Japanese ad from earlier today which leaked the game’s November 8th release date, Sega gave fans another look at the game in a story trailer. As Sonic you find yourself stranded on a brand new island as you search for the missing Chaos Emeralds. Throughout your journey, you will battle new mysterious enemies as you uncover the truth behind the Starfall Islands.

Return of Monkey Island (PC & Switch)
Release Date: September 19th
Return of Monkey Island has announced its hitting digital PC and Nintendo eShop Stores on September 19th aka “Talk like a Pirate Day.” The new trailer showed off more details in comedic fashion including a free Horse armour preorder bonus that absolutely does nothing to alter gameplay, it’s just something you can admire in your inventory.
Moonbreaker (PC via Early Access)
Release Date: September 29th
Moonbreaker is a turn-based strategy, tabletop tactics game from Subnautica developer, Unknown Worlds. Designed to be a true digital miniatures experience, set in an expansive sci-fi universe crafted by Brandon Sanderson. The game in terms of looks and story is inspired by works like Guardians of the Galaxy and Firefly, as an added bonus for miniature painters you can also paint the game’s digital miniatures.
Friends vs Friends (PC and Consoles)
Friends vs Friends is a frantic, online PvP shooter that combines combat and deck building. Choose a character, build your deck, and test your friendship with the craziest card effects.
Lies of P (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, & Xbox Series)
Lies of P is a soulsborne-like game inspired by the fairy tale, Pinocchio as the titular character goes on an adventure to become a real boy or man that’s a much more darker take on the story players know. The game is set to launch day one on Game Pass when it launches next year.
Stranded: Alien Dawn (PC via Early Access)

Stranded: Alien Dawn, a planet survival sim placing the fate of a small marooned group in your hands. Players will experience a story through compelling and immersive strategic gameplay as you make vital decisions to protect your survivors.

Homeworld 3 (PC)
Release Date: First Half of 2023
This next game is the return of a tactical RTS classic in the upcoming sequel, Homeworld 3 from Gearbox and Blackbird Interactive. New and returning players will assume control and battle through fleets in the last frontier, Space alongside classic strategic gameplay. The game’s combat will feature a dazzling and fully 3D space where the game’s story will unfold on the galaxy-sized battlefield.
Honkai Star Rail (PC & Mobile)
Honkai Star Rail is the next free-to-play game from Hoyoverse, the studio known more famously for Genshin Impact. The upcoming game is actually the fourth entry in the series which is set to introduce brand new characters as well as alternate versions of familiar characters from Honkai Impact 3rd.
High on Life (PC, Xbox One & Xbox Series) – Game Pass

We got a new look at Rick and Morty co-creator and voice actor, Justin Roiland’s new game, High On Life which features talking guns reminiscent of the show.
The Expanse: The Telltale Series

Telltale is making its return to games with its upcoming game based on The Ex[panse universe from developer, Deck Nine. The Expanse: The Telltale Series is set to release next summer.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, & Xbox Series)
Release Date: Early 2023
Up next is a game based on the ‘80s cult classic movie, Killer Klowns from Outer Space. The franchise’s take on the asymmetrical multiplayer horror genre as players can choose to plan their own alien invasion and harvest humans as the titular Killer Klowns or gather a team of survivors to fight the extraterrestrial threat.
Scars Above (PC, PS4, PS5 & Xbox Series)
Scars Above is a sci-fi third-person action-adventure shooter game that combines difficulty with a compelling story, set in a mysterious alien world to explore.
Wyrdsong
Wyrdsong is a dark, historical fantasy that takes place in a fictionalized version of Portugal in the Middle Ages. Players will be inserted into the shoes of fully customizable protagonists they explore the game’s world in an adventure that features RPG mechanics, combat, questing, and more.
Gotham Knights (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, & Xbox Series)
Release Date: October 21st
WB Montreal announced at Gamescom that its upcoming game, Gotham Knights is coming out earlier than expected which is now slated to release four days earlier on October 21st. To celebrate, the game featuring Nightwing, Redhood, Batgirl, and Robin taking over a dead Batman got another look at the game which showed off its version of Harley Quinn and more.
Where the Winds Meet
Up next is a truly impressive-looking trailer and game called “Where the Winds Meet” which is an upcoming open-world RPG with gameplay focusing more so on weapon and hand-to-hand combat. Players will be able to leap off and walk on water, shoot arrows from a high up distance in an explosive fashion, take on mythical-looking boss-like foes, and possibly more. No date or platforms were announced.
Park Beyond (PC, PS5 & Xbox Series)
Release Date: TBA 2023
Have you ever wanted to make your rollercoaster dreams come true, well you can in the upcoming game Park Beyond, where players can build the “universe’s greatest theme park, comes true.” Park Beyond gives the freedom to create unique never before seen rides thanks to an array of materials and modules when it launches next year.
Dorf Romantik (Switch)
Release Date: September 29th
Staying in a similar realm, world builder Dorfromantik reveals it’s making the jump to another platform, Nintendo Switch next month. Players will be able to immerse themselves in a quiet, peaceful world where they can attempt to beat the high score and strategically place tiles
The Outlast Trials (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, & Xbox Series)
We got another look at Red Barrels‘ upcoming survival horror game, The Outlast Trials in a brand new trailer. While no release date was shown, the devs behind the game revealed a closed beta test is happening over Halloween starting on October 28th until November 1st.
The Finals
Up next we got a very brief look at The Finals, a brand new game from ex-Battlefield developers being created by Embark Studios. The game is a free-to-play first-person shooter focused on an in universe famously known game show. Players will be able to fight alongside teammates in virtual arenas that will let them build their own playstyle.
Dead Island 2
Release Date: February 3rd, 2023
The final game of this game showcase is Dead Island 2 in two brand new trailers, the first is cinematic and features Jacob, one of the game’s six main characters. During his ‘normal’ day-to-day life of going to the grocery store and killing zombies while the zombie apocalypse is ongoing. A developer on stage confirms the game’s setting of Los Angles and officially reveals Dead Island 2’s gameplay.
