Electronic Arts Is Officially Sold Off And Belongs To Saudi Arabia

And just like that, Electronic Arts now belongs to the whims of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake Partners, and Affinity Partners, which is owned by Jared Kushner.

The deal closed today for $55 billion after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved it and it cleared regulatory hurdles. “As of July 30, 2026, all regulatory approvals required to complete the Merger have been obtained. Electronic Arts currently expects the Merger to close on or about the close of trading on August 4, 2026. Completion of the Merger remains subject to the satisfaction or waiver of the remaining customary closing conditions set forth in the Merger Agreement,” it said last week.

The confirmation the deal was done came via a press release today, and it included quotes from those taking over.

“This moment recognizes the extraordinary people whose creativity, ambition and passion have made EA one of the world’s leading interactive entertainment companies,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts. “We’re entering this next chapter from a position of strength with partners who share our vision and ambition. Together, we’ll invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences for the hundreds of millions of players and fans who inspire us every day.”

With the PIF – or Public Investment Fund — Saudi Arabia now owns 93.4 percent of Electronic Arts. Silver Lake Partners owns 5.5 percent of the shares. Affinity Partners owns 1.1 percent of the company.

The PIF is a sovereign wealth fund managed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The fund has been used for many acquisitions, including SNK, Scopely, EVO, and more, as well as investments into Embracer, Nintendo, and Take-Two Interactive.

“EA has created stories, characters, and communities that have become part of everyday life for hundreds of millions of people,” said Jared Kushner, Chief Executive Officer of Affinity Partners. “We’re excited to support the company as it continues to reach new audiences, inspire the next generation of creators, and expand the ways people around the world connect through play.”

EA’s franchises are some of the most beloved in entertainment, combining exceptional creative talent with a relentless focus on players,” said Egon Durban, CEO and Managing Partner of Silver Lake. “As long-term investors in technology, we admire how EA’s innovation fuels imagination and human connection. We’re proud to join with PIF and Affinity Partners to invest heavily in EA’s growth, including what AI can do to enhance game development and player experience, and excited to partner with Andrew and the EA team as they raise the bar for fans everywhere.”

There are many concerns from consumers and, rightfully, the developers affected by this purchase. Saudi Arabian officials and the crown prince have been accused of some rather brutal events.
