Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Developer Confirms Plan for Sequel in AMA Despite Creator’s Death

With just less than a week until Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes’ launch, developer Rabbit & Bear Studios revealed what it has planned for the future in a Reddit AMA thread and confirmed plans are already in the works for a sequel of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

“We are moving forward with a sequel… it is very sad that [Yoshitaka] Murayama is not with us anymore, but we have discussed many things with him. I hope we will be able to carry on Murayama’s legacy, and I always want to treasure his last work. I hope many people will support this game,” Rabbit & Bear Studios commented on Reddit.

The response in the Reddit thread was from character designer and studio head Junko Kawano, director and system designer Osamu Komuta, and art director and producer Junichi Murakami. While talking about their plans, the discussion transitioned to their memories of Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicle Creator, Yoshitaka Murayama revealing that “no matter how bad Murayama’s mood or his health, he was always happy and smiling as soon as he saw the joy and excitement of his fans. I know that he loved you all.”

Murayama’s untimely passing was revealed to happen sometime during the week of February 6th, 2024 with the announcement going out to the world on February 14th. As the creative mind behind, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Murayuma wanted to create a real successor to Suikoden, so alongside his past collaborators at Konami, they launched a new project with the spiritual legacy of the Konami RPG franchise in the form of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, which was announced back on July 27th, 2020 and would be funded on Kickstarter.

The project got its funding in three hours alone and exceeded all its stretch goals, becoming the third most-funded project in the crowdfunding campaign’s history with over $4.5 million USD raised across 46, 307 backers. The project would later see the release of the game’s prequel, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising in 2022.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is set to launch for  PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on April 23rd.
