NHL 24 Cale Makar

EA Introduces NHL 24 Cover Athlete, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche

EA Vancouver has officially revealed the cover athlete for the upcoming NHL 24. Cale Makar, a defenceman for the Colorado Avalanche, is featured on the key art and cover of this year’s annualized hockey game.

Fans eagerly awaiting NHL 24 are being treated to a rather surprising announcement of Makar’s feature. As speculation swirled in the lead-up, many names were thrown into the fan-pick hat. However, the ultimate selection of Makar is well deserved.

Makar is 24 years old. As a Calgary native, he was signed to the Colorado Avalanche in 2019 on a three-year entry-level contract. During Game 3 of his first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs, Makar became the first defenceman to score a playoff goal during his NHL debut. He’s been touted throughout his career as having some of the best defensive skills in the league.

During the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, Makar’s career came to a head as the Avalanche beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, securing their victory. Makar closed the season with a team-leading 29 points, the fourth-most for a  defenceman in a single postseason in league history.

Makar now joins the likes of Peter Forsberg and Joe Sakic as reps of the Colorado Avalanche, who have been featured on the cover of NHL titles. The former was the cover athlete for NHL 98. The latter was featured on NHL 2004.

A full reveal of the game is slated for August 16th.
