Less Than a month after Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake‘s launch Square Enix has announced its latest remake has sold over 2 million copies worldwide across physical sipments and digital sales, according to a press release.

While an impressive sales milestone, the most incredible statistic about the remake’s sales is that almost one million copies were sold physically in Japan alone, according to Famitsu’s most recent sales charts. The remake sold 742,918 copies on Switch and 212,853 copies on PS5, a total of 955,771 physical copies in Japan. To celebrate the sales, Square Enix released special artwork featuring a 2D render of the characters from the game surrounding the 2 million sales news.

“Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D is an excellent remake. Despite some cumbersome traditional gameplay mechanics the series holds onto, like item and party management, the classical turn-based combat is well-paced and offers a fair challenge to everyone. It’s hard to see how important Dragon Quest 3 is in today’s market, but when it launched thirty years ago, it upended the trajectory of the franchise and many others by how much content it offered. Today, you’re experiencing a reasonably traditional RPG that’s charming, unique, and stunning,” Bobby said in our review.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake launched on November 14th for PC (Steam and the Microsoft Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch platforms. It’s the only Dragon Quest remake as another one is coming in the future with Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake slated to launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2025.
