Revealed today, Square Enix is bringing Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.
The definitive version of Dragon Quest 11 lands on the Switch 2 this September and includes two display modes, including the choice to prioritize graphics or performance.
You play as the Luminary, a legendary hero who rises when true evil is about to be reincarnated, and who was abandoned as a baby. Things ramp up from the start, and you set off to learn more about your past while recruiting people to your cause, all the while avoiding evil-doers who would see you dead. The Dragon Quest series has always had some of the best-written characters. This is still true in Echoes of an Elusive Age, even though it takes some time warming up to them, more so when you explore their backstories and why they are where they are when you meet them.
The Definitive Edition includes all the content from the original release of Dragon Quest 11, and adds extra character-specific scenarios, the choice of playing with the original soundtrack or a grand orchestral version of the music, the ability to switch between 2D and 3D graphic modes, a Japanese voice-acting option, and much more.
Square Enix doesn’t list an upgrade path for existing owners or a way to transfer save files over. However, it seems like this is also a Game-Key Card release.
