Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Launches January 2020

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, a new action-RPG set within the Dragon Ball universe, follows Goku from the early chapters of the Z saga and as we now know, all the way to the Buu Arc. Kakarot is currently at Tokyo Game Show, where the newest saga was confirmed to be included in the final game. We also got a glimpse of new footage which looks pretty good.

One of the benefits of switching from a fighting series to an RPG is the fact the developers don’t have to focus on the battles. Instead, smaller moments like fishing, taking the drivers test, and experiencing those quiet moments is a new take for the franchise. I’m looking forward to the wealth of sidequests that are sure to pop up around the world.

I was a huge fan of The Legacy of Goku series on Gameboy Advanced back in the day, and although this is nothing like those games, the fact we’re getting another RPG is reason alone to be excited for me. I know we’ve had the same stories continually rehashed over the years and by now we should be sick of them, but that isn’t the case. With the hopeful success of Kakarot, I’d love to see the developers expand the series into new arcs, even retelling Dragon Ball Super.
