Modus Games and publisher Secret Base are working on Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, a revival of the series that began back in 1987.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is the first entry since 2017’s Double Dragon IV.
The follow-up with Modus and Secret Base will celebrate the cooperative beat ’em up nature the series has cultivated since the original and deliver the tag team duo fighters with new roguelite elements to deliver a replayable revitalization of the classic series
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is set in New York City in 199X, when the city has been devastated by nuclear war and the citizens fight to survive the incoming riots, crime, and chaos filling the streets. It’ll be up to Billy and Jimmy Lee to reclaim the city.
The developer says there will seamless tag team abilities, a multitude of strategies for devastating combos, defense, and offensive moves with 13 unique playable characters.
Billy and Jimmy Lee are joined by Marian, and newcomer Uncle Matin, with the ability to tag in and out in a two-player local cooperative. Online cooperative play is planned as a post-launch update later this year.
You’ll earn cash by completing Special Kos on enemies and health boosts are earned by performing Crowd Control moves, which are special KOs that knock out multiple enemies at once. You can then spend cash on new upgrades at the end of each stage.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will launch on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC this summer.
