Disney Dreamlight Valley Leaving Early Access on December 5th, Shifting From Free-To-Play To Paid Release

Details on the game's first paid expansion, A Rift in Time will be showcased on November 1st

It’s rare, but plans do change during the early access period of the game as Gameloft has announced Disney Dreamlight Valley will be changing from the title’s free-to-play model to a paid release when the full 1.0 version launches on December 5th, according to a blog post on the game’s website.

The reason behind the decision was so the developer could “continue delivering on a premium game experience for all players,” which has been around since it first launched in early access back on September 6th of last year.

“It’s important to us that we maintain our promise to keep delivering free content updates that add new characters, realms, clothing, furniture and more surprises to your Valley. Purchases requiring Moonstones will remain optional fair and match the level of quality players have come to expect. Players will still be able to collect free Moonstones via Dream Snaps and Chests, or optionally choose to purchase them,” Gameloft said in a statement.

As a part 0f the announcement, the Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s $29.99 USD Founder’s pack will be discontinued on December 4th, which first gave players an “early” chance to play up the game alongside some bonus cosmetic items. For those in that tier, Gameloft emphasizes that players will continue to keep their access to their game and progress, plus their moonstones, the game’s currency.

In its place will be the base game, which will be a slightly more expensive replacement at $39.99 USD but comes with 8,000 moonstones. Notably, this version doesn’t come with exclusive content or the game’s first paid story expansion, A Rift in Time. More details on that expansion will be revealed in the game’s first-ever showcase on November 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Live.

A Rift in Time will be included in Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s $69.99 USD Gold Edition alongside 15,000 moonstones, but for those at the base game tier, the expansion can be picked as a standalone $29.99 purchase. Game Loft also announced the game’s launch will see a physical release with the base game, 14,500 moonstones, and a bevy of cosmetic items for $49.99 USD exclusively for those on consoles.

For now, Disney Dreamlight Valley is currently playable in early access on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), Mac, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.
