Digimon Time Stranger

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is Getting Terriermon as an Assistant, a Graphic Mode Option, and More in New Update on July 9

Coming a day before the game's Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 launch

Ahead of Digimon Story: Time Stranger’s launch on Nintendo’s hybrid console platforms, Bandai Namco has announced in a post on Twitter that the latest entry in Digimon’s Story franchise is getting a free update and is dropping on July 9th for players who already own the game on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.

As for what exactly is coming in the July update, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is getting Terriermon Assistant as a playable character. That’s not all as the game is also adding a Photo Mode for field exploration, a new Graphics Mode option, and a screen to check Digivolution conditions in the Digifarm. We loved our time with Digimon Story: Time Stranger when it first launched. As Digimon games have come out over the years, with some honestly stumbling in recent years, this one feels much more than a return to form but a new standard for the series.

“Overall, Digimon Story Time Stranger is above and beyond its predecessors and a game that Digimon fans deserve. The story is a blast despite a slow start, the characters are interesting, and the actual fights themselves are fun. While performance can be a bit wonky, graphically, it’s the best-looking Digimon game to date. This adventure through the Digital World is a fantastic journey that nails the unique magic of the series,” Matt said in our Digimon Story: Time Stranger review.

Since Digimon Story: Time Stranger’s release back in October, the game has released three episodic story packs as a part of its season pass. Even more content is coming, as a large DLC expansion is planned to release planned for 2027. In the more immediate future, a day after the update drops, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is releasing for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 10th.
