Spiders — the French house of game development most famous for 2019’s treasure-hunting action-RPG GreedFall, and 2022’s revisionist history soulslike Steelrising — appears to be winding down production with last month’s GreedFall 2.
According to a new report from the French outlet Origami, Spiders will soon close its doors after Nacon, Spiders’ owner/publisher, went into financial insolvency last month.
Word has it that a buyer for Spiders has not yet been found, and the French court overseeing Nacon’s bankruptcy has mandated that the Paris-based developer be liquidated and sold, or shut down — likely to recoup assets to pay for court services and refund investors.
The original article claims that sources say there has been a wave of fear and low morale among employees at Spiders, who have been updating their resumes and holding “self-study sessions” instead of working on games.
We’ll report back as we hear more on the situation regarding Spiders.
