Deltarune Will Release Following Chapter 4’s Completion, A Chapter 5 Game Update To Follow But Is “Pretty Far Off”

Currently Chapter 3 is "pretty much" done

Undertale developer Toby Fox gave an update in a Halloween newsletter on the status of their current game, Deltarune and revealed how the game will launch. In the post, Fox said that after work on Dleatrune Chapter 4 is completed, the game will launch as a paid release.

As for where development is currently at, Fox adds that Deltarune Chapter 3 is “pretty much content complete,” and the original plan was to release Chapters 3, 4 and 5 together, but knowing how far off the last chapter is, plans shifted. Instead, Chapter 5 will be added to the game when ready as part of an update in the future. Additionally, Fox has revealed they hired a game producer to help “speed up” work on chapters 4 and 5, so players hopefully won’t have to wait too long as the past chapters.

Deltarune has been in the works for a long time and has been released in parts known as chapters, with the first being initially released in 2018 and Chapter 2 to follow in 2021. Both Chapters were released for free as standalone releases on PC and as a two-chapter bundle on PS4 and Nintendo Switch consoles. It’s been about two years since Chapter 2, and Fox revealed that work on Chapter 3 was a lot “of trial and error to figure out” but “feel[s] very confident about how we can progress” as development transitions into Chapter 4.

“That being said, though, I think I’m going to pause on more detailed development updates for now. Instead, I’ll just let you guys know if the development is getting close to completion or if something funny happens,” Fox said in the Halloween newsletter.
