Opening Night Live Dead Island 2 video game releases

Dead Island 2 Is Actually Releasing Next Year

We’ve been given our first CGI-heavy look at Dead Island 2, which marks a triumphant return for Deep Silver’s quintessential Zombie action RPG franchise. Deep Silver is still at the helm, but Dambuster Studios has stepped in to take over as the developer in place of Techland, who has, of course, gone on to create the more serious Dying Light series..

What we have here appears to be miles away from serious but right on the destination for what we’ve come to expect from Dead Island.

We meet Jacob — a young man who wakes up in a luxurious Beverly Hills villa. The rest of the trailer follows him as he kills zombies, meets the locals and jams out to “Hollywood Swinging” by Kool And The Gang. Life would be pretty great for Jacob… you know, if Los Angelis, or HELL-A as it’s now known, weren’t swimming with the walking dead.

You know what? I can’t do this game justice, so here’s some stuff from the press release!

A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies. The city is under quarantine, and the military have retreated. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, you learn to harness the tainted zombie powers running through your veins. Only you, and the handful of other swaggering assholes who happen to be resistant to the pathogen, hold the future of Los Angeles (and humanity), in the balance. You were born for this.

There’s life in the undead genre after this year’s Dying Light 2 Stay Human. But with it being so long since Escape Dead Island came out as the last entry in the franchise or since this game was at E3 of 2014, so it’s hard to say if this series still has bite.
