If you’ve had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Brain Jar Games‘ phenomenal beat-adjacent beat ’em up, Dead As Disco, then you know it is hard to keep Charlie Disco down…especially because, even if you lose a level, you are definitely going again.
And now, there’s even more reason to keep Charlie’s last night of rock and roll going, as the “Dahlia” update launches.
Having once belonged to the band as a piano player and Flamenco dancer, Dahlia appears to play fast and on the “and” beat, fanning literal flames while doing so.
Dahlia’s fight takes place at The Nightshade, a venue equal parts club and botanical gardens. Known as “The Lady of Loss,” the band’s former pianist and dancer will drop Charlie into a multi-stage battle, beginning as this game does so well, with a vibrant spectacle stylized to match the genre she represents.
Here, her level is filled with blooming greenery that gives way to erupting magma and embers as Dahlia reveals her “Death Form,” and creates a haunting world of ash.
Dahlia’s show is attended by the new Flamecho enemy, which rains fire down before rushing in with an unblockable attack and a counterable follow-up. Oh, and they’ll make you feel the burn, or at least the “Burn” status, which deals damage on the beat.
Triumphantly surviving your tango, Dahlia unlocks her “Skill Tree” for Charlie, including “Phantom Dance,” an empowered dodge that leaves behind a damaging “Pyroette,” which Charlie can detonate with a follow-up attack.
Dahlia’s signature track, “La Pantera,” brings Spanish piano and a Latin-inspired sound to the Dead As Disco soundtrack. The update adds five new songs in total:
- “La Pantera” (Radio Edit)
- “La Pantera” (Boss Remix)
- “Sugar and Spice”
- “Suavemente”
- “Kumbala”
Other new additions as part of this update include:
- The “Nightshade” and “Obsidian Overture” arenas
- Eight new Challenges
- New Dahlia cosmetics and memorabilia for Charlie
- New Dance Moves, including Salsa Fan, Honest Hips and Bad Boy Boogie
- Flamecho, Smoking Stan and Dahlia as enemy options in Infinite Disco
- New Dahlia quests and dialogue in The Encore
- New arena-swap triggers and improvements to Infinite Disco
Since its launch into “Early Access,” Dead As Disco has grown through major content updates and vocal player feedback. It’s currently rated “97% – Overwhelmingly Positive” on Steam, across more than 14,000 user reviews. Further, it’s been nominated for the “Best Early Access Game” award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2026. And Brain Jar Games is asking fans to consider voting.
