It is official. Dave Bautista is Kratos in Prime Video’s adaptation of God of War, Variety reports.
Bautista takes over for Ryan Hurst, who had to bow out last month after a bicep injury forced him to vacate the role. Rumour then began to swirl that the former Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy actor was in the running to play the former God of War who creates a new life in a new land.
The Prime Video production was delayed until 2027, with four episodes already completed. Additionally, the series has been given a two-season order, which is set to film back-to-back, with filming beginning in Vancouver earlier this year. Now that Bautista is on board, production will likely resume in the coming weeks, with all the work featuring Hurst being reshot.
Casting an actor like Dave Bautista is exactly what you would want to play Kratos. Not only can he match the physique, but he’s proven he can show a wide range of sides in his acting. He’s shown it continually throughout the years. The only thing I am a bit concerned about is how much of a crash course the actor requires to bulk up again after showing a slimmer build in recent years.
