At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, CD Projekt Red revealed a new trailer for September’s Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The latest expansion promises a new location in Dogtown, Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed, and several redesigned systems.
Phantom Liberty will be a paid expansion that includes new weapons and story content, but I feel the massive Update 2.0 is worth discussing. This update will be free to anyone who owns the base game, bringing changes to the core mechanics, including new cyberwares, vehicular combat, a new Relic skill tree, an increased level cap, and more.
Here’s what’s coming to Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, including Update 2.0:
- A dangerous new district
- Dozens of new story quests and gigs
- Vehicle combat and mounted weaponry
- Revamped police system
- Combat AI overhaul
- Endless dynamic events and missions
- Redesigned cyberwar and perks
- All-new relic skill tree and abilities
- Increased level cap
- 100+ new items – weapons, cyberware, and fashion

“And vehicle combat isn’t just a Phantom Liberty exclusive — with Update 2.0, expect roadblocks, high-octane shootouts, and of course, MaxTac. Police will respond accordingly to your heat level, setting additional traps, trying to ram you off the road, and eventually calling in the big guns once they’re convinced you’ve gone full cyberpsycho,” says Malinowski.
