Crimson Desert, the sandbox RPG from developers Pearl Abyss, has been on a hot streak since launch. From huge player and sales numbers to strong reviews, Pearl Abyss has a hit on their hands. This is in no small part due to the incredibly fast updates they’ve been dropping, where every week brings changes players have been asking for. The latest dev update expands even more on the way from Pearl Abyss for Crimson Desert fans, with a number of key updates expected now through June.
The team says they’ve been “closely following players’ adventures, discussions, and feedback, while working to make Crimson Desert an even more enjoyable experience for everyone”. They’re planning to do a lot to the game, with new content including boss rematches, re-blockading of liberated locations, and difficulty settings. All of these will give players more battles to fight through, while also alleviating some concerns about difficulty. Those looking for a more relaxed time can play on easy or standard difficulty at normal, and those looking for more of a challenge can play on hard.
Damiane and Oongka, the two other characters, will also get new skills, namely skills that resemble Kliff’s, Axiom Force and Force Palm. This will let both characters do more in the open world, including solving puzzles. Players will also be able to hide weapons on their backs, increasing immersion, along with new character outfits.
A host of quality-of-life updates are also planned, including a storage overhaul that will separate storage for food, clothes, gatherables, and collections, making it easier to parse. You’ll also be able to craft directly from storage, as well. New pets and mounts will also be added, along with new equipment for them.
Some technical and visual enhancements are also on the way, including UI updates, control improvements, and better rendering of distant landscapes. A free soundtrack DLC is also on the way on Steam.
All of these changes are expected to roll out from April through June, so it won’t be long before players can start enjoying the new updates.
We’ve loved Crimson Desert, giving it a 9, saying that “Crimson Desert is an overwhelming experience. It’ll leave you thinking about a view from a mountaintop, celebrating a brutal boss fight, digging in and learning a new system even 45 hours in. It is not, and won’t be, for everyone. The barrier to entry is high, but as you settle in, learn, and adapt, you’ll be rewarded with a deep, engaging experience that keeps you guessing. Even if there are issues, they quickly get lost in the sea that is Crimson Desert, momentary waves in a breaking wake of wonder and excitement. Crimson Desert gets better as it goes, and those looking for a new world to live in for hundreds of hours should look no further than Pywel.”
Crimson Desert is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic Game Store, and Apple Mac.
