Control Resonant Hotfix Addresses Game Difficulty

Remedy’s Control Resonant is finally out today, and it’s a massive departure from its 2019 predecessor in many ways.

I’ve enjoyed much of my time playing as Dylan Faden, who’s stuck dealing with the Hiss as the paranatural threat permeates throughout Manhattan. However, the enemies you face are overly challenging in the opening hours, making those first few hours unnecessarily difficult. I faced this issue and was pretty vocal about it, as it really dragged the first five hours down quite a bit.

On Bluesky, Remedy says it’s deployed a hotfix to address the complaint by fixing enemy health pools and Dylan’s combat strength.

For the CONTROL Resonant launch, we are deploying a hotfix to address enemy health pools and Dylan's combat strength.Combat is more dynamic. Upgrading is made more straightforward.More on our blog: https://ow.ly/VEE350ZQXhC#CONTROLResonant

“Based on what we have seen so far, we have decided to deploy a hotfix (1.3.3) at launch to address a few specific things: enemy health pools feeling too high, requiring too many hits to Falter (stun) enemies for executions, and Dylan’s overall combat strength early on in the game not feeling powerful enough (even if the man just woke up from a coma),” a blog post reveals.

Depending on player progression, enemies can feel too tanky during the early hours of the game. To address this, we are making the following changes:

  • Reduce the base health and required Falter (stun) level of most enemies, as well as the Dancer and Deserter bosses
  • Increase maximum Aberrant Strength and maximum Ability Strength
  • These strength increases follow a curve, with progressively larger increases towards the end. The more upgrades you have, the more damage you deal.

Remedy says it believes these changes are meant to “improve the gameplay feel and flow while still providing a challenge.” And it’s good to remember there are a bunch of in-game assists that let you adjust how you experience Control Resonant, from how much health enemies have to how much damage you deal and absorb.

The hotfix also encourages builds, so the studio reduced the respec cost and increased the stock of these Reset Items across all vendors. The first Resonant boss now also drops two Reset Items instead of one.

The UI has also been updated in English to better explain Build Power nd Aberrant Strength. More localizations will follow.

  • Aberrant Strength: “Multiplier X%” will now be: “Damage and Falter X%”.
  • Build Power: “Calculated based on equipped Weapon Forms, Talents and Core Upgrades.” will now be: “From unlocked Combat Abilities, Aberrant forms/upgrades, Talents, and Core Upgrades.”
