Announced on The PlayStation Blog, Cloud Streaming officially lands on PlayStation Portal devices today, with the major new addition being the ability to stream owned games directly.
The Cloud Streaming Beta launched last year, but until now, it has been limited to games in the PlayStation Plus Game and Classics Catalogues. With today’s update, PlayStation Plus Premium users can also directly stream games from their digital libraries, removing the need to stream through a PS5 console. Thousands of PS5 games are supported, with hundreds more on the existing Game and Classics Catalogues. The full list of compatible games can be found here.

The update goes live at 9:00 PM EST later today, November 5, and also includes several other improvements. The updates include an overhauled UI, 3D audio support, a passcode lock, and a network status screen. The network status screen is a notable highlight, allowing users to check their internet stability in a more straightforward way than before.
Cloud streaming also received some tweaks, including an in-game story, accessibility options such as a screen reader and adjustable text size, and game invitations to quickly join with friends.
In our review for the PlayStation Portal, we said, “Young parents and those with spouses will benefit most from the PlayStation Portal’s ability to stream your games. That isn’t to say anyone can’t enjoy what the Portal does, but it’s clear this is a device for those with limited television time. If you plan on taking the PlayStation Portal on the go, you better make sure you have the data to support it, but in my opinion, I had the best time using the device in front of the fire with a movie on.”
