Capcom Shutters Vancouver Studio

Capcom has shuttered their Vancouver studio which primarily worked on Dead Rising titles and assorted mobile games, including the recent Puzzle Fighter game on iOS. 

The closure will result in n huge financial losses for Capcom, which is predicted to be upwards of 4.5 billion yen or around $40 million USD.

Capcom released a press statement confirming the studio’s closure, effective today and the closure will affect 158 employees.

“Capcom is currently reviewing the allocation of its development resources that support the production of world-class content. Capcom has been focused on increasing the efficiency and growth of its game development operations. To support this objective, new R&D facilities and annual hiring have been underway at the Osaka headquarters. In consideration of this process, as a result of reviewing titles in development at Capcom Vancouver, Capcom has decided to cancel the development projects at this studio and will concentrate development of major titles in Japan.”

Earlier this year, Capcom restructured the West Coast studio in Vancouver, downsizing the workforce by a whopping 30%. A skeleton crew will now stay on board to close up shop
