Developer Chibig, the studio behind Elusive and Mika and the Witch’s Mountain, is back with Bel’s Fanfare. The studio’s next project is doing well on Kickstarter, having surpassed its $64,541 CAD funding goal. As of the writing of this article, the current pledge is $159,145 CAD.
With 31 days to go, Bel’s Fanfare is gaining momentum. It’s no hidden secret that there’s a market for 3D retro titles like this one, and it feels like a lost or overlooked title from the PlayStation or Nintendo.
It makes sense given the developers’ flat-out statement that Bel’s Fanfare is inspired by The Legend of Zelda‘s first 3D games.
The story appears to begin with The Witch of the Sea, a massive ship once a symbol of prestige, now struggling. In an attempt to save the ship, Captain Popplar calls the demon Belceboo, bound to the boiler room to power the ship’s engine.
For years, Belceboo and his children have been left in the depths of The Witch of the Sea. Now, he enlists his daughter, Bel, outside to serve the captain as the newest aura cleaner. In a departing gift, Bel is given the Ukoback gong-shield, a family heirloom capable of disrupting the aura.
While Bel works to restore the ship, she’s also secretly working on freeing her family from imprisonment.
Today’s Kickstarter update confirms that Bel’s Fanfare is working on adding stretch goals after hitting its original pledge.
It’s launching for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. You can add Bel’s Fanfare to your Steam wishlist.
