Baldur’s Gate 3 Is Coming To Xbox Series But Is Currently Delayed Due to ‘Technical Issues’

"There’s no platform exclusivity preventing us from releasing Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox"

Following the announcement of Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to PS5 this August at yesterday’s State of Play presentation, fans in the community are wondering if the game will be making its way to Xbox or not with others taking an extra step to theorize that the game must be a console exclusive. That’s not the case at all, as developer Larian Studios has come out on social media and has clarified that Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t a PS5 console exclusive. They add that an Xbox Series X|S version is currently in development but hasn’t been officially announced due to development hurdles and at this point aren’t confident to officially announce the game for Microsift’s new-gen console.

“We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 in development for some time now. We’ve run into some technical issues in developing the Xbox port that has stopped us [from] feeling 100% confident in announcing it until we’re certain we’ve found the right solutions – specifically, we’ve been unable to get split-screen co-op to work to the same standard on both Xbox Series X and S, which is a requirement for us to ship. If and when we do announce further platforms, we want to make sure each version lives up to our standards & expectations,” a Larian Studios representative said in a Reddit post earlier this afternoon.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on PC through early access back in October 2020 and is set to fully launch this year on PC, Mac, GeForce NOW, and PS5 consoles on August 31st.
