Ubisoft Delays Avatar Frontiers of Pandora out of 2022
Aiming to Release it Sometime During its Next Fiscal Year
During Ubisoft’s Q1 earnings report, the publisher revealed that it has delayed Avatar Frontiers of Pandora from its scheduled 2022 release window to its next fiscal year which means that the upcoming AAA Avatar game will now release sometime between April 2023 and March 2024.
It’s pretty obvious that the plan for Ubisoft was to release the game in the lead-up to the long-awaited Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water which is releasing this December. In the pandemic era of video game development, it’s less surprising to hear about the delay especially when the game and Ubisoft as a publisher no-showed last month’s series of Summer Game Fests events.
“We want to make [Avatar] a video game industry brand. It is important for us that we come [up] with something that is perfect,” Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot said during Thursday’s earnings call.
Ubisoft first announced they were developing the game all the way back in 2017, we finally got our first look at the Avatar Frontiers of Pandora last year in the form of a cinematic trailer. As for how the game development is going not much is known but Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb said he heard a month that”the game looks pretty and the gameplay is in rough shape.” So maybe the extra time is needed but hopefully, they don’t crunch too hard to make it work for the sake of the developers at Massive Entertainment and the other support studios working on Avatar Frontiers of Pandora.
