Alternate History Soviet Era Shooter, Atomic Heart is set to Launch on February 21st, 2023
Publisher Focus Entertainment and Developer Mindfish have announced its upcoming alternate history shooter, Atomic Heart is being delayed from its 2022 release window and will now launch early next year for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 21st, 2023.
For anyone unaware, Atomic Heart asks the alternative history question – “what if the Soviet Union experienced a technical revolution in the 1950s” leading to some very early creations; robots, holograms and the internet to name a few. This is all happening in the Soviet era during 1955 with communism at its highest and not a lot of love for the west.
The game puts into the shoes of a KGB agent known as P-3 who is investigating Plant 3826, a Soviet manufacturing facility where an accident happened leading to a robot uprising at the facility. As you go through the game your character slowly goes insane with friendly-looking robots, blood technicals and experimental Soviet projects trying to kill you. Atomic Heart is giving off all the Bioshock energy of the trailer below is anything to go off of in this almost Nuclearpunk type of game.
As for gameplay, while a lot of the game has shown off its shooting mechanics, there is in fact an emphasis on melee combat so much that the developer describes Atomic Heart as a “First=Person Bloodborne.” The game will feature dodges, truly bloody finishing moves, an actual combo meter, and bunkers which sound like they will be the game’s versions of dungeons.
I think with all that, Atomic Heart is sounding like an awesome game to pick up, especially for anyone who is a fan of the survivor games it’s clearly inspired by. Definitely check out the game when it launches on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 21st, 2023. Game Pass subscribers should keep an eye out for the Soviet Era game as Atomic Heart is launching day-and-date on Game Pass.
