Atari is dusting off a classic game from its vault and has announced Lunar Lander Beyond, a new game based on 1979’s Lunar Lander. This entry is set to be a reimagining of the classic gameplay and is scheduled to release next year for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch, according to Gematsu.
The upcoming Atari release is set to add customization and simulation alongside a deep narrative, plus gameplay featuring precision gravity mechanics. Lunar Lander Beyond will see players take on the role of a newly appointed captain for the Pegasus Corporation. They guide a unique crew of explorers, eclectic advisors, and state-of-the-art landers as they tackle demanding missions.
The challenges ahead that players will dive into include delivering important cargo, extracting valuable resources, and daring rescues that take your vessel to the many planets and moons across the cosmos. Lunar Lander Beyond is being developed by Dreams Uncorporated, whose debut game was the Indie RPG Cris Tales. Players can expect some stellar animation in Lunar Lander‘s second wind title.
“Dreams Uncorporated has a unique vision that transforms Lunar Lander into a game with a meaningful back story and deep, modern gameplay. We could not be more enthusiastic about the creativity and craftsmanship they are bringing to such an iconic Atari property,” Atari CEO Wade Rosen said.
Lunar Lander Beyond is scheduled to release on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch sometime in the first half of 2024
