Microsoft is the king of offering custom controllers and has been doing it for years, both through the standard channels and also through the Xbox Design Lab, giving players the chance to make a personal controller made just for them. This next colour joins both the Electric Volt, Pulse Red, Shock Blue, and Daystrike Camo is the latest colour scheme but includes the best upgrade once you see it.
“Aqua shift features a surreal, colour-shifting blue shimmer that you need to see to believe. Playing with the way the prismatic colour moves across our controller, you’ll feel like Aqua Shift comes to life in your hands. Inspired by the fantasy that gaming brings into our lives, we know this mystical beauty will add that magic your controller collection needs.”
What makes this different than the other colours you might ask? Aqua Shift is the first Special Edition Xbox Series X|S controller to use rubberized side grips with a unique dual colour swirl on every unit. In the video above you see the textured grip on the bumpers and triggers, and even the back case.
I’ve grown to love the Xbox controller after using it almost daily these days. Holding it feels natural, the grips, triggers, and bumpers feel amazing when pressed and the texture on the case feels great under pressure. During an intense moment playing Destiny 2 I’m known to grip the controller extra tightly and find the Xbox Series X|S controllers feel better in my hands.
With this next upgrade coming to the Aqua Shift controller, I’m wondering whether or not Xbox will upgrade the other colours to include this option. However, it feels far too soon to tell how the rubber holds up after prolonged usage in the hands of a consumer. I’m going to wait a bit and see how the general reaction is once people get the controller in their hands before purchasing one.
