Live Action God of War Series Greenlit at Prime Video

With the Wheel of Time showrunner and The Expanse creators on board for the Video Game adaptation

Look like PlayStation is looking to bring another exclusive to a streaming service as Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions and Amazon Studios has announced a live-action God of War series is coming to Prime Video.

God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling. We are honoured to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and [game developer] Santa Monica Studio,” Amazon Studios’ head of global television, Vernon Sanders said in a statement.

It’s early days as the project has been in development since March so no release window was given but we do know that the series is being adapted from the more recent games, the franchise’s Norse duology rather than the origin of the series in Greece. Currently, Wheel of Time’s Rafe Judkins will serve the series as showrunner with The Expanse creators, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby writing and executive producing alongside Judkins and Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog.

“We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series,” Sony Pictures Television Studios president, Katherine Pope said in a statement.

In addition to the recently announced series, PlayStation Productions is adapting its exclusive games into series which include Twisted Metal for Peacock, Horizon for Netflix, and the upcoming The Last of Us series for HBO; premiering on January 15th.
