Amazon Wants to Make Mass Effect for Prime

Deadline reports that the long-gestating project has made some leeway. After years of being stuck in limbo as a movie before being shelved, it appears Amazon now wants to turn Mass Effect into a television series.

Earlier this year, Mac Walters, the director of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition spoke to Business Insider and confirmed Legendary had scrapped the plan to develop a film. “It felt like we were always fighting the IP,” he said. “What story are we going to tell in 90 to 120 minutes? Are we going to do it justice?”

It would be nearly impossible to try to turn a series like Mass Effect into a movie but what about a television series? Well, Amazon is “nearing a deal” to move the series to TV instead.

Per Deadline’s article, which focuses mainly on how Wheel of Time performed was a nugget about Mass Effect.

One of the company’s newest hopefuls in the arena is Mass Effect. Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a series based on the best-selling sci-fi video game franchise from Electronic Arts.

“You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds, we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more,” Salke said.

It makes sense that the Amazon would want their next big sci-fi series following the end of The Expanse. Netflix has The Witcher and if rumours are to be believed, Henry Cavill may be working on Mass Effect, something that was teased earlier this year.
