AlphaDream is a Japanese developer know for working on Nintendo’s critically acclaimed Mario & Luigi series, and today we’ve learned that the studio has filed for bankruptcy. According to JapaneseNintendo, the AlphaDream began its bankruptcy proceedings on October 1 with the Tokyo District Court.
Following its founding in 2000, AlphaDream made waves when Nintendo revealed the studio was working on Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for the Game Boy Advanced in 2003, which was followed by several sequel throughout the years. Their most recent title was Mario & Luigi: Bower’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey on the Nintendo 3DS in early 2019.
With revenues being sluggish and heavy development costs, the studio has no choice but to file. According to the article, AlphaDream saw revenue as high as ¥300 million in March, 2014; the company’s debt is at around ¥465 million as of March, 2019.
As it is, this is all the news on this at the moment. We wish those affected the best and hope they land jobs quickly – AlphaDream featured a ton of talent, let’s hope they end up on their feet.
