Developer Nihon Falcom posted its financial results report for the fiscal year ending September 2022. In the report, the developer states the next Ys title will launch in September 2023.
We’ve previously seen a glimpse of what the next Ys game looks like via one piece of concept art. The studio has been mum on its next project and given that the series’ 35th anniversary is coming it, the team working on the project knows it has to be able to celebrate the milestone. Outside of the reported release date, it is confirmed the next entry will launch on PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch.
In June, an interview with Nihon Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo revealed the next entry would keep the gameplay the series is known for while re-examining other aspects. The team is looking at something similar to a Soulslike where one-on-one combat is introduced while keeping things feeling light.
In recent years, players have had two good entries in the long-running series including Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana and Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.
