In the lead-up to 007 First Light‘s release this May, Nintendo Switch 2 was one of the platforms listed for the game’s simultaneous launch, but later on the Nintendo version of the latest James Bond game was delayed to a summer 2026 release. With the first day of fall just days away, developer IO Interactive has announced that 007 First Light’s Nintendo Switch 2 port is no longer launching this year altogether and has been delayed again to March 2027.
“Today we would like to provide an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 release of 007 First Light. We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond’s reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later. This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game,” IO Interactive wrote in a tweet via 007 First Light’s Twitter account.
“We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at Gamescom, and it’s a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch. The same demo will be playable at Tokyo Game Show this week, so please join us there if you would like a hands-on experience. We will share further updates as soon as we are ready.”
It’s been quite some time since 007 First Light‘s release, but at the time when the game dropped, we loved our time with the game as it felt like a perfect fit for IO Interactive to take on the James Bond IP, knowing its pedigree with the Hitman series.
“IO Interactive’s 007 First Light is easily the best Bond game we’ve seen. Rare’s GoldenEye 007 was momentous when it launched, and it’s stuck around the zeitgeist because it was a portal into Ian Fleming’s world of shaken martinis and spy thrills we’d never seen before. What 007 First Light feels like is a playable, limited spy series that transports the player into a gripping and memorable espionage story,” Bobby wrote in our review.
007 First Light is currently available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
