007 First Light's Developer Diary

007 First Light’s Developer Diary Series Releases Third Episode Detailing Story Origins

Developer IO Interactive in collaboration with Amazon MGM is back at it again with another deeper inside look at 007 First Light‘s development in its behind-the-scenes developer diary series, with the lastest third episode focusing on the studio’s approach to crafting its reimagined young James Bond story and explores its narrative foundations, according to a press release.

In the 10-minute episode, 007 First Light‘s main writer Michael Vogt reveals that the origin of its take on James Bond was a core aspect of the project’s vision from the start. Instead of telling a story of Bond with years on his belt as an agent, IO Interactive wanted a portrayal of a 26-year-old James Bond with that bright-eyed younger perspective being reflected in not just 007 First Light‘s story but it’s tone.

Vogt adds that 007 First Light, even with its own sense of danger, is not a dark, gritty or cynical world, but rather the goal was to make the game fun, inviting, adventurous, and ultimately hopeful for those playing as James Bond, who is looking to prove himself.

007 First Light is set to release for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on May 27th, 2026. Those who pre-order the base game will receive a deluxe edition upgrade for free, giving 24-hour early access to the game a day before its launch, alongside additional access to exclusive in-game items and outfits.
